NeuroPsychiatric Hospitals (NPH) is a system of short-term, acute neuropsychiatric hospitals for patients commonly experiencing:
- Suicidal or homicidal ideations
- Change in behaviors
- Decrease in participation in activities of daily living
- Change in mental status/confusion
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Disruptive behaviors
- Signs of isolation and social withdrawal
- Physical aggression
- Verbal aggression
- Non-compliance with medical treatment
- Impaired thinking
Due to:
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Dementia
- Behavioral disturbances
- Parkinson’s disease (Lewy body dementia)
- Depression
- Frontotemporal dementia
- Anxiety
- Psychosis
- Schizophrenia
- Brain injury/Stroke
- Other psychiatric and mental disorders
- Other neurological disorders
NPH accepts most major commercial insurance and is a participating Medicare & Medicaid provider. To be admitted to a NPH facility, a patient must:
- Require psychiatric or behavioral inpatient hospitalization
- Be able to participate in treatment programs
- Have an expectancy of improvement
